Yellowstone National Park, Lamar Valley Opening Day Oct. 15 2022 through Chief Joseph Byway. Yellowstone National Park was able to open it's Northeast Entrance into the Lamar Valley on Oct. 15, 2022. I was one of many people who headed that way but since Beartooth Highway was closed for the season I drove from Red Lodge Mt. south to the south end of Chief Joseph Scenic Byway and then north towards Cooke City and then Yellowstone Park. I went there mostly to see the damage that little Soda Butte Creek did to the roadway and the area in general. They have done a great job of repairing most of the roadways so that the public can once again enjoy the park and the Lamar Valley. So this is my journey to YNP through Chief Joseph Byway which in itself is just beautiful any time of year. I did not go the whole route, just to South Buffalo Plateau pull out for lunch then I headed back to Red Lodge.
