Emerald Pond: Scenic Drive and Hike in Virginia

Emerald Pond is a small body of water hidden away on Big Mountain near Bird Knob, in the Massanutten Area of Page County, Virginia. The area is located within the George Washington National Forest. In this episode I make a brief visit to Catherin Furnace, the site of a Civil War era forge and ironworks operation, before continuing up the mountain on the pleasant and easy to drive forest service road. Near the top of the mountain, I park and hike down a few fire roads to reach the pond. There were limited campsites along this stretch of forest service road; however, there were a couple of really nice hike in style campsites around the pond.
