It is the car of cars for the great sport, whose superlative power and speed, climbing ability and absolute dependability have earned it the reputation of being the world's fastest sport car. Evolved from the Compressor Touring model which is favorably known everywhere, the Sport model "S" differs from its original in several respects owing to changes made to suit its purpose. The snappy lines of the chassis in themselves are indicative of the peculiar nature of the fast Sport car. Front and rear end of the frame are properly curved to obtain an especially low center of gravity. This, combined with the perfect distribution of weight and the high efficiency of the brakes, accounts for the unusual safety of this model. Long semi-elliptic springs, overslung in front and underslung in the rear, make for unequalled riding comfort and roadability. The engine also is distinguished by the neat lines of the regular Compressor Touring model; the differences are limited to a few details. These include a somewhat larger piston displacement - 6800 ccm = 415 cu. in.; two special carburetors, a stronger compressor, double ignition (magneto and battery). Despite the unbelievable power of this engine, its speed does not exceed 3000 R.P.M. and generally, in open contrast to the highly delicate design of the average sport car engine, its construction is unusually sturdy and absolutely dependable. The brilliant performance of the engine in long distance tests as well as its long life must be attributed directly to its sturdy construction. The availability of left or right hand drive, four speed transmission with ball shift lever in center, special four-wheel brakes of high efficiency, speedometer and heat indicator on the instrument board, lengthened filler tube on the fuel tank and other features make this fast car and its powerful engine easy to drive even for the owner. If you drive the car, you will be surprised how easily controlled is its 180 H. P. engine. In dense city traffic, you can drive at walking pace on fourth speed and when you reach the open road, you can quickly attain a speed of 100 miles an hour. Lady drivers too have won laurels in international contests at the wheel of the MERCEDES-BENZ Sport model. The Sport model "S" logically is the poverful engine for the owner-driver. In the sporting year of 1927, 27 victories have been won with this model, and 10 records surpassed. At the Automobile Salons in Paris, London and Brussels this latest product of the world's oldest automobile factory has been acclaimed by international experts as "the last word in motor car design".
