RAJASTHAN Series EP #21: Ranthamore Exp train journey from Jodhpur to Jaipur, ft. Sambhar Salt Lake. Hi Friends, I present to you, the twenty first vlog of the Rajasthan 2023 series. After checking into the dormitory of Jodhpur Railway station, Hitesh and I decided to sleep early, as our train to the state capital Jaipur was an early one the next day. We had booked on board the Ranthambore Superfast Express from Jodhpur to Jaipur junction. While we were waiting for the Ranthambore Exp on pf-1 of Jodhpur, I spotted the premium train of Rajasthan, the Palace on Wheels, for the second time in this trip. Previously we had seen it in Udaipur on the first day of the trip, and there it was, giving us darshan on the last day too. After the POW rake vacated the platform, our train pulled in, hauled by Ludhiana's dual cab EMD, WDP-4D #40399. We were booked in the AC3 coach, and as soon as we got in, Hitesh went to sleep, while I was awake literally the whole journey, a railfan that I was, I didn't want to miss anything even in those early dark hours of the day. Though I didn't venture out to the door, as it was pretty cold early in the morning. We barreled ahead towards Jaipur, while crossing a few late running trains en-route. At Merta road, the line to Bikaner bifurcated to our left. After Nawa City, I went to the door, since I wanted to cover the Sambhar Salt lake region. It is India's largest inland salt lake, and one part of the lake also sees migratory birds visiting. The lake has many salt pans, and two smaller gauge rails as well, to transport the salt to the processing plants. Back when we traveled, this section of the route was unelectrified and a single line, but now, things have changed. After Sambhar lake, we reached Phulera, where we met the high rise OHE section of the Delhi Ahmedabad mainline. We spotted a few high rise OHE actions too. The last stretch was a brisk sprint as we reached Jaipur junction delayed by 45 mins. After dropping us at Jaipur, the train continued its journey to Indore, while we went out to find accommodation, and I had a few plans in mind at Jaipur, and that's where the upcoming vlog will continue.
