Welcome to Japanese Sounds & Phrases. This is Day Three of our 365-day journey into the Japanese language, guided by sound, rhythm, seasons, and everyday life. Today’s word is “Konnichiwa.” It means “Hello” or “Good afternoon.” “Konnichiwa” is used during the daytime. It is not used in the morning, and it is not used at night. In Japanese, greetings change with time. That is why “Ohayou” is used in the morning, “Konnichiwa” during the daytime, and “Konbanwa” in the evening. “Konnichiwa” feels calm and balanced. It is friendly, but not too close. You can use this word with almost anyone— in shops, on the street, or when meeting someone for the first time. 📅 Date: January 3, 2026 🔢 Episode: 3 / 365 🐎 Zodiac: Year of the Horse Take a moment. Feel the light of the day. Thank you for being here. Tomorrow, the journey continues.
