It reached No. 1 on the Cashbox chart,[1] #4 on the U.S. pop chart, and #5 on the U.S. R&B chart in 1957.[2] The song was ranked #48 on Billboard magazine's Top 50 singles of 1958. Suzanne Somers, Kathleen Quinlan, Debralee Scott, and Joe Spano also appear in the film. Set in Modesto, California, in 1962, the film is a study of the cruising and early rock 'n' roll cultures popular among Lucas's age group at the time. Through a series of vignettes, the film tells the story of a group of teenagers and their adventures over the course of a single night. An on-screen epilogue reveals that John was killed by a drunk driver in 1964, Terry was reported missing in action near An Lộc in 1965, Steve is an insurance agent in Modesto and Curt is a writer in Canada.
