(18 Jun 1997) English/Nat A row's blown up in Hong Kong amid accusations that the Chinese army, the P-L-A, are enjoying special privileges ahead of the handover. It has been alleged that the deputy commander of the P-L-A Garrison in Hong Kong criticised Customs officers for stopping him at a border crossing. At the moment this is the frontline between Hong Kong and China. Royal Crest Hill observation post is one of five such posts manned by British soldiers seven days a week. They are watching for anything unusual and monitoring the movements of their colleagues across the border in China. Even on the last day of British rule in Hong Kong, these officers from the Black Watch regiment will be on duty here as normal. They'll be pulled out at the last minute and head straight to the airport and home to Britain. SOUNDBITE: (English) \"We're leaving absolutely nothing - maybe a couple of fans, or a kettle or a fridge or something, but that is it. We're leaving nothing at all. From then onwards it'll be the Hong Kong police that'll man this. They'll also man another post further down closer to the actual other side. I can't see the P-L-A when they come over manning this.
