It occurred to me that you could plug a DAC (Digital to Analog Converter) from a Spectrum, into an Analog Synthesiser and have the Spectrum control it. Of course you could use MIDI from the Spectrum and it would stay in tune and probably be easy to keep in time with a drum track, but I said no to that sort of thing! Spectrum out to InterSpec & Attached 8 Bit DAC. That gives me 256 levels that I can output as voltages between 0 and 2.55v that I then feed into the CV input of my analog synth which controls the pitch of Oscillator 1. I programmed this old Mr. Beep tune into the Spectrum and then OUT each value which is as close as I could get to the notes to 1V per Octave which the Synth uses in it's CV ports. I amplify the voltage up from 2.55 volts (as the DAC outputs 10mV per integer OUT on the port) to around 6 volts and that gives better tuning and range over the Synth.
