This criminal law updating service brings you real time video case reviews on all the latest cases and legislation. Today we look at R v Collins; R v Lewis & Jaffa, conjoined cases looking at the misconduct by those in a public office. When sisters Nicole Smallman and Bibaa Henry were brutally murdered in a London Park. Police officers Jamie Lewis and Deniz Jaffer were assigned to stand guard to preserve the integrity of the scene and ensure it was not contaminated. However Jamie and Deniz proceeded to take photographs of the victims and circulate those photographs amongst fellow police officers and friends. They were charged with police misconduct. The second case looked at Darren Collins, a civilian employee of the Staffordshire Police since 2002. In the course of an inquiry, police investigators seized Darren's work computers and, when they were examined, it emerged that over the years he had transferred from police databases to his own personal computers and other electronic devices thousands of images taken at the scenes of crimes investigated by Staffordshire Police. The appeal in the case of Collins was dismissed and the applications for leave to appeal in the cases of Lewis & Jaffar were refused. Learn more about criminal case law with CrimeCast.Law.
