One Donor Liver Saves 2 Lives | UAE First Split Liver Transplant | King’s College Hospital Dubai

King’s College Hospital London in Dubai has made history by performing the UAE’s first split liver transplant, saving the lives of both a six-month-old baby and an adult patient using a single donor liver. This landmark liver transplant surgery in Dubai was led by world-renowned liver transplant surgeon Professor Mohamed Rela alongside King’s expert paediatric and adult liver transplant teams. Using a highly advanced technique called in-situ splitting, the donor liver was divided and transplanted into: A 6-month-old infant with biliary atresia An adult patient with primary sclerosing cholangitis Both surgeries were performed simultaneously in two operating theatres, making this one of the most complex and remarkable transplant procedures in the UAE. Today, both patients are stable and recovering well.
