I never had the chance to experience the Dreamcast games or the 'Modern' Sonic games growing up as I had decided to get a Playstation by then. So I had missed out on both Adventure games and also, Shadow as a character. So at the time, I never really 'got' Shadow and understood why he became such a loved and popular character, who's popularity even trumped that of Sonic's for a time and rivals it still. I used to think of him as just an edgier, dark and evil copy of Sonic, which he certainly seems to be on the surface. But since I have started playing Adventure 2 and other games with him in, I now understand why fans rever him as a tragic, misunderstood and introverted hero that contrasts very well with Sonic's extroverted and positive personality. While going back to cover content of mods for my second favourite Sonic game of all time (Sonic Mania), I picked out these two mods (links above) as they go very well together. There are so many great mods out there and once again the Sonic community doing a fantastic job in keeping the game fresh and alive 7 years on. Sonic Mania is what I consider to be a massive and positive turning point in the franchise and it serves as a reminder to fans and critics of why Sonic became so big in the 90s.
