Join us on our day out sea fishing for mackerel in the off the coast of Brixham in Devon. We booked up a 2 hour sea fishing trip in the harbour in the hope of being able to catch our dinner. Did we get sea sick, did we catch fish or was it just a damp squib? Well we can tell you that it was great fun and we all enjoyed it, even Scott (who is normally very picky about what he wants to do). This great little trip was Beau's idea. He has wanted to go proper sea fishing for a few years and as we were staying in Brixham for a full week, we did not have any excuses to not go. This trip cost £80 for a family of 4, (2 adults and 2 children). Unfortunately, because of space on the boat, it did not matter whether Amy was too young to fish, she still had to be paid for, so please be weary of this if you decide to go, as it is quite expensive. But, it has to be said that Amy still loved the experience and was entertained by everyone else who was fishing and by the boat dog (who belonged to the captain). There are 4 trips daily with this particular fishing tour company. We were on trip 3 of the day. We were told that they first trip had caught in excess of 30 fish! But the second had caught none and two people were badly sea sick and it had to return early. Not much fun for £80!!! So this was not a good sign, but we kept up our spirits. You will see the water was very calm and flat in the harbour and it looked as if the gods were on our side, but it did get quite choppy as soon as you left the shelter of the harbour. But luckily for us it was not that bad and there were no sea sickness victims on our trip. And after about 30 minutes at the second spot that we stopped, our prayers were answered. The fish started to bite. We caught a few little tiddlers, which were Whiting and then all of us started getting some bites from Mackerel, all of which were a good size. Now the great thing about this is that you do get to keep what you catch and that was our goal, to catch dinner. Now £80 for a few mackerel may seem a bit excessive, but when we saw the excitement on Beaus and well, my face, you will know that we all believed it was worth it. If nothing else, it was also worth it to see the beautiful Torbay coastline and all the beaches and coves that are tucked away from general sight.
