This is a popular recipe from the Maharashtrian cuisine prepared with a super flavourful masala and fresh green peas. GREEN PEAS USSAL Ingredients 2 cups fresh green peas, shelled 2 tbsps oil 1 tsp mustard seeds 1 tsp cumin seeds 2 medium onions, finely chopped Salt to taste ½ tsp turmeric powder 1½ tsps goda masala 2 tbsps chopped fresh coriander leaves ½ lemon Green paste 1 cup fresh coriander leaves 1 inch ginger, roughly chopped 10-12 garlic cloves 3-4 green chillies ½ cup scraped fresh coconut To serve Pavs Chopped onion as required Lemon wedges as required Method 1. To make the green paste, put coriander leaves, ginger, garlic, green chillies, coconut, and ½ cup water in a mixer jar and grind to a fine paste. 2. Heat oil in a pressure cooker. Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds and sauté for a few seconds. 3. Add onions and salt and sauté till golden brown. Add the green paste, mix and cook for 2-3 minutes. 4. Add green peas and mix well. Sprinkle the turmeric powder and goda masala and mix. Cook for 1-2 minutes. 5. Stir in 2 cups water and cook till it comes to a boil. Cover with a lid and cook under pressure till 3-4 whistles are released. 6. Open the cooker once the pressure has reduced completely. Add coriander leaves and squeeze the juice of lemon and mix well. 7. Serve hot with pavs, onion and lemon wedges.
