Most text adjustments are made in the Text inspector. To adjust the text, first you need to select the text in the timeline. Once you have the text selected, and have moved the playhead over the text in the timeline (so you can see your adjustments in the viewer), open the Text inspector. Moving from top to bottom, the first thing that you will encounter is the Preset menu. This holds a lot of preset 2D and 3D styles that enables you to quickly apply attributes to your text. Moving down, you can edit your text either by selecting the text and using the on-screen controls in the viewer, or by typing your text in the Text field in the inspector. Below the Text field are your basic controls. You can select the font by clicking on the Font drop-down menu. Final Cut Pro will reveal the fonts that you have installed on your computer and you can sample the font simply by hovering over the name. Final Cut Pro will update the font selection in real time in the viewer. Depending on the font that you choose, you may have more style options in the Font Style pop-up menu. Not all fonts have all styles so the available style options will depend on the font that you choose. The Size slider is one way to adjust the size of your text in the inspector. You can also adjust the size by selecting the number in the number field and dragging up or down to adjust the size or typing the number in the number field. If the slider doesn’t make the text big enough, type the number in the number field. Alignment buttons set the alignment and justification. You can vertically align the buttons in the Vertical Alignment section. Below Vertical Alignment is a slider that lets you adjust the leading, or line spacing, of the text. You can set character spacing using the Tracking or Kerning sliders. Baseline lets you adjust the baseline, or bottom alignment of the text. You can also set your text to All Caps by using the checkbox. The slider below will set the size of the smaller letters in relation to the larger ones.
