The Schuylkill River/Canal loop is a five mile paddling route located on The Schuylkill River and Schuylkill Canal a little before Mont Clare at river mile 36.6 and a little after Port Providence at river mile 34.0 in Montgomery County Pennsylvania. River miles are indicated on the markers at each portage ( shown in the video) in tenths of a mile - "366 help locator" is at river mile 36.6. This video is a visual reference of the two portages on the loop as well as the scenic beauty of the route. The lower portage, from the river to the canal is best found by looking for the high tension wires crossing the river right at the end of one of the big islands. Portage landing is right below the wires on the left river bank. Since the time when this footage was shot, a portage sign has been installed at this location which should also be looked for. Port Providence Paddle provide canoe and kayak rentals right on the canal.
