Each year the Stowe Center for Literary Activism located in Hartford, CT gives a literary prize to a book that highlights a social justice issue or theme. I have created the art piece for Dr. Ruha Benjamin's Viral Justice and Dr. Bettina Love's Punished for Dreaming. Dr. Clint Smith, Dr. Eddie Glaude, Jr and Ta-Nehisi Coates are some of the past Stowe Prize recipients. So it's a big deal. A unique feature of the award is the art piece that is created to go with it instead of a statue or something like that. This started three years ago and I have had the honor of creating a unique piece of art to go along with the prize. Each one is unique to the book and this year, I wanted to document part of the process and share it with you. It was presented to him as a part of a celebration on Sept. 17, 2025 #artprocess #artprocessvideo #behindthescenes #stoweprize #literaryactivitism #artactivism #jessicadickens #NovelJames #percivaleverett #handmadeart #collageart #studiovlog #socialjustice #studiovlog #stowecenterforliteraryactivism If you would like to see more of my work: www.jessicadickens.com
