Exploring and Panning for Gold in the Consolidated Gold Mine - Dahlonega, GA

On our recent trip to Helen, GA we took a morning and went over to Dahlonega, GA to tour the Consolidated Gold Mine. They offer tours that take you down into parts of the old mine, explain the history of how it operated and the people that worked there, and you even get to pan for gold at the end of the tour. It was well worth the visit to experience the gold mine. If you're in the area, definitely add it to your list of things to do in Dahlonega or the Helen area. We even found a few small gold nuggets while panning for gold at the end of the tour. They have a great gift shop with tons of variety. I found a solid 23KT gold Ken Griffey Jr. baseball card that I took home as my souvenir. The tour guide was amazing and really brought the whole experience to life.
