The PG and Research Department of Zoology, in collaboration with the Inner Wheel Club, Nagercoil organized an awareness programme titled “Orange the World – Say No to Violence Against Women and Girls” on 09 December 2025. The event was conducted for students of Holy Cross College (Autonomous), Nagercoil, and was aimed at sensitizing the college community about gender-based violence and the importance of legal awareness and collective responsibility. The programme commenced with an awareness on Violence that is inflicted on women and how to say No to it. Dr. Jeni Padua, Dean and Staff Advisor of Zoology Club welcomed the gathering. Dr. Shyla Suganthi , Head of the Department of Zoology introduced the guests and conveyed the purpose of the meeting. The Chief Guest, Advocate Meenakshi, a distinguished legal professional, delivered a highly insightful and empowering address. She elaborated on various laws and legal provisions protecting women, emphasizing the importance of legal literacy, courage, and collective action. Students actively engaged with her session, gaining knowledge about how they can contribute to preventing violence and protecting women in their communities. Following the keynote address, students participated enthusiastically in the Rally Against Violence, carrying messages of respect, safety, and empowerment throughout the campus. This was followed by the inauguration of the Finger Imprint Campaign by Dr. Sr. S. Sahayaselvi, Principal, who also flagged off the awareness rally from the college. Her participation symbolized the institution’s commitment to safety, dignity, and justice for women and inspired students to actively engage with the campaign. The Finger Imprint Campaign, where participants pressed orange-painted hand imprints, served as a symbolic pledge to stand united against violence toward women and girls. A total of 130 students, faculty and representatives from the Inner Wheel Club of Nagercoil actively participated in the event. The programme was coordinated by the Organizing Secretaries, Dr. Jeni Padua and Dr. S. Bhuvaneshwari along with the faculty team and student representatives, ensuring smooth execution and meaningful impact.
