I spent three days on a youth hunt in British Columbia during early September, just after a record-breaking heat wave — temperatures had hit 40.8 °C only 100 km away two days before. Thankfully, it cooled down by the time we headed out. Throughout the hunt, we saw plenty of wildlife, including lots of immature bucks, but I was holding out for a big 4-point. On the final day, our patience paid off when we spotted one of the biggest deer we’ve ever seen. Unfortunately, luck wasn’t on our side when we encountered it, but we’re planning a four-day trip in mid-October to try and harvest that buck.
