Frank Martela invites us to rethink leadership by stripping it down to its essentials. In his Nordic minimalist approach, leadership is about enabling the team to succeed—not feeding the leader’s ego. Drawing on insights from billion-dollar companies and scientific research, he shows how clear direction, trust, and boundaries can transform teams into empowered, self-driven units. Martela’s vision challenges traditional hierarchies, proving that the less a leader controls, the more a team can achieve. Frank Martela, PhD, is an Assistant Professor at Aalto University, specializing in motivation, meaning, and well-being, particularly in the context of work life. He holds two PhDs—one in organizational research (Aalto University, 2012) and another in moral philosophy (University of Helsinki, 2019). His scientific work has been published in top journals such as Perspectives on Psychological Science, Nature Human Behaviour, Journal of Personality, Academy of Management Review, and Southern Journal of Philosophy. Frank has also written for Scientific American Mind, CNBC, and Harvard Business Review, and has been interviewed by major media outlets including CNN, BBC, NBC, The New York Times, New Scientist, and Le Monde. His book A Wonderful Life: Insights on Finding a Meaningful Experience (HarperCollins, 2020) has been translated into 29 languages.
