12-27-2025 Entertaining stick antics continue…

Entertaining stick antics continue… Yesterday morning, after Shadow delivered the first two sticks of the day, Jackie came in soon after with a third. It was a huge claw-shaped branch that she promptly began to place. Thankfully, there was no evidence of the fishing line in her beak from the day before, so all the good thoughts and wishes from her devoted fans must have worked. It was a beautiful, clear, and sunny day and there was just a dusting of snow on the nest, so they both went to work as usual. They did seem to be a bit distracted at times and on low alert. They each took time out to observe the neighborhood in between moving sticks here and there. At one point, after Shadow had flown out, Jackie seemed to be tracking something and she made several short high-pitched calls, most likely to Shadow. Shadow responded and returned a few moments later with another stick in tow. As Shadow came in through the front porch, Jackie ducked down just enough as he flew right over her head! Jackie then moved to the attic on the ‘Y’ branch and Shadow headed out to gather another stick. When Shadow returned this time, they had quite the long conversation together and it seemed very important. Suddenly, Jackie headed out off the attic branch and Shadow took off out the back porch, perhaps to take care of some urgent business in the habitat. After that, they both returned with more sticks and continued their fun little bonding antics of love bumping, feather nibbling and tug ‘o sticks. As Jackie flew straight in with stick #9, she clipped the High Perch branch with her new stick before landing safely in the nest. A little later, Shadow came in hot on the right side of the nest and landed right in front of Jackie's face. She just kept working as if nothing happened! Jackie and Shadow have each had some defining moments that have alerted us a bit, but these two never cease to entertain and fill us with joy. And after all is said and done, everything usually seems to be okay. Looking forward to more eggcitement to come!
