Oasis Location: Irvine, Scotland, U.K Venue: Irvine Beach Park Date: 14th July 1995 Source: Soundboard Recording This is all that circulates from the band’s two sell-out shows on the coast of Scotland at Irvine Beach. Under the canvas of a huge tent to defend themselves from the usual Scottish weather, these gigs have been lauded as some of the best performances the band ever did. Yet nothing circulates, or almost nothing. The story behind these circulating bits of audio are very interesting. Rock N’ Roll Star was uploaded to YouTube many years ago, with the uploader stating that this was the only track from a cassette which was laying on a tour bus seat. The sound quality is excellent, as it came straight from the mixing desk, which made it all the more curious why only one track existed, but the date attributed to it was the 14th of July 1995. Fast forward to 2014 when (What’s The Story) Morning Glory is released as a remaster, and on the deluxe edition several tracks labelled as being from Roskilde are included. Fans soon realised that Hello and Some Might Say aren’t from Roskilde as the audio doesn’t match, leading to a debate on where they came from. I think I can be ballsy in saying that the debate ends today. The most common answer was one of the Irvine Beach gigs, though no one was ever really sure. Liam states after Hello that this night is “Better than Glastonbury”, therefore it was sure it wasn’t the opening show of the tour in Bath. Added to the fact that the sound quality seems to be exactly the same to Rock N’ Roll Star, the sound mixing is reminiscent of Eurockeénnes too, so more than likely would be a show from around mid-July. Lastly, it’s not uncommon for Oasis’ management to mislabel things, I Am The Walrus from the “Glasgow Cathouse ‘94” being a major example, as it’s actually from the band’s soundcheck at Gleneagles that same year. Looking up on several newspaper reviews of the first night all became clear. Written in those reviews are the exact same statement from Liam, “Better than Glastonbury”. So enjoy these snippets to what many insiders with the band have claimed as one of Oasis’ best performances. Perhaps one day we will get to make that judgement with the full performance.
