Commissioned in 1944, this Gato-class submarine played a crucial role in the Pacific Theater of World War II, sinking 13 enemy vessels and damaging another eight. After the war, U.S.S. Cavalla (SS-244) was decommissioned and later transferred to the Texas Submarine Veterans of World War II, where it was restored and opened to the public as a museum ship.
