"Apocrypha of the Eastern Ranges" was written for Orange Road Quartet as a celebration of Appalachian fiddle music, which emerged from the Southeastern United States, as well as drawing aesthetic influence from Iannis Xenakis’Tetras and George Crumb’s Black Angels. The composition blends a post-minimalist musical language with harsh, unrelenting rhythms, bow work, and melodies influenced by the composer’s experience of learning and playing traditional and folk-punk fiddle music in the American South during his youth. The landscapes, communities, and lived experiences of rural Appalachia inspired the overarching structure and tone of the piece. --EB Tribeca New Music - East Coast Premiere: The DiMenna Center for Classical Music, NYC, Nov. 5, 2025.
