Rationed items included: • Gasoline & tires • Coffee, sugar, meat, cheese, butter, lard, margarine, canned foods, dried fruits, jam • Clothing, shoes, silk and nylon stockings • Bicycles, fuel oil, and many household goods • Automobiles and home appliances were no longer produced Each household member received a ration book, including babies and children. Drivers needed a gas card and coupons to purchase fuel, and all forms of automobile racing, including the Indianapolis 500, were banned until 1945.
