Ya’at’éeh! Aaron Tsosie here, the person behind the camera! Welcome to Friday's Grand Entry at the Seminole Pow Wow in Hollywood, Florida. This was my second year in a row returning to this pow wow, and I was excited to be back after having such a great experience here last year. I reached out to the Seminole Pow Wow media team ahead of time, and I’m grateful to have been welcomed back and approved for a media pass. Friday night always sets the tone for the entire weekend, and Grand Entry is where everything comes together. After the prayer, I positioned myself where I could clearly film the dancers entering the circle and also capture one of my favorite moments to film—the flag bearers posting the flags into the flag stands—while making sure I stayed respectful and out of the way. The Seminole Pow Wow is well-organized and moves smoothly, which makes it a great event to document. There’s constant action in the circle, strong singing, and a lot of pride from everyone involved. Being able to film from inside the barriers allowed me to capture this Grand Entry from a perspective that really shows the scale and movement of the dancers as they enter. Visiting drum groups featured in this video, in order of appearance: •Bear Creek •Pine Lodge •Whitetail Boyz •Ho-Chunk Station •Wicozani •Iron Swing •Southside •Cozad If you’re able to make the trip, I highly recommend coming out to this pow wow. It’s one of the best-organized events I attend, and it’s always good to see so many people traveling in from different parts of the country to be here. Thank you for watching and for supporting the work I do documenting Indigenous events. See you in the next one.
