In this week’s Global Broadcast Ariel wraps up his series on Romans 9, 10 & 11. He reminds us that Paul makes it clear that the Words of God to Israel, Jerusalem, and the whole world are being fulfilled in 3 ways: • There is a Jewish remnant. • This remnant is being united together with a remnant from every tribe, tongue and nation. • We are moving together towards the ultimate fullness of all things that will climax at the Second Coming of Yeshua. Paul’s letters, and especially Romans, are full of quotes from the Tenach (OT) that open up his teaching and beg to be explored. For instance, in Romans 11:26-27, Paul concludes his teaching of the “fullness formula”: the fullness of the gentiles (nations) brings about the salvation of all Israel. And the Scripture he chooses to tie it all together? Isaiah 59:20-21, but there is a twist! Paul actually changes the original prophecy slightly, in two important ways. Why does he do this? What is he revealing? How does this relate to Zechariah 12:10? And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn. The gifts and calling of God to Israel are irrevocable (11:29). Through the mercy God has shown to the nations, God then uses the nations to show mercy back to Israel, so He can have mercy on us all (11:30-32). Paul’s ultimate response to this incredible grace is to cry out in worship: Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!…For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever. Amen. –Romans 11:33, 36
