Positive youth development models enhance the well-being of young people in New York and across the globe, and most also develop the civic learning of participants to at least some degree. Civic learning describes the development of the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to engage effectively in civic and democratic life, today and in the future. Through arts, sports, leadership, and service programs young people are engaging with their communities and becoming a part of the solution for a better future. This webinar recording is for youth development practitioners (mentors, coaches, facilitators, teachers, etc.) who are interested in learning about approaches to intentionally embed civic learning into youth development programs. Hear about different models through a panel discussion, network and dive deeper in breakout sessions, and walk away with concrete tools and activities that you can start using immediately. Speakers Include -- Olivia Brady, Youth Programs Manager, Campaign Finance Board -- Rachel Castillo, Program Manager, Intergenerational Change Initiative | Coalition Coordinator, NYC Youth Agenda -- Adama Diallo, Civic Engagement Associate, Citizens’ Committee for Children -- Laura Jankstrom, MSW, Associate Executive Director for Civic Engagement, Citizen’s Committee for Children -- LaTroya Lovell, Director of Youth Research at YVote/Next Generation Politics -- Ebube Nwaeme, Youth Leader, DYCD My Brother’s Sister’s Keeper Youth Council -- Jennifer Tang, Ph.D., Director of Research, ONS Youth Leadership Council | Intergenerational Change Initiative CCC is a member of the DemocracyReady NY Coalition, which is hosting and partnering on statewide events during NY Civic Learning Week (March 11 – 15, 2024).
