We’re building a new house for our 30 chickens. Living off-grid on a mountain our chickens are a large part of our lives and are essential to our self-sufficient dreams. Our chickens roam free across our land, living wonderful lives, and in return we receive highly nutritious and organic eggs to feed our family, as well as lots of rich compost for our vegetable garden. Shepherding these chickens for three years has been quite the rollercoaster. It feels like we’ve made every mistake you can make, and it’s fair to say keeping them alive on this wild mountain takes skill. Our new chicken house will be an architectural marvel, it will build upon our vast wisdom (mainly of what not to do) and fit perfectly into the landscape, lasting for generations to come.
