First Westone I own, ever. I want to know what is true about the Matsumoku Hype, so I buy Japanese stuff like this every now and then. They are still cheap. Maybe they stay cheap forever, unless some rock-hero starts to play on them - a Kurt Cobain-kind of guy for example. This design is so uncool, it must be cool. And I found out there are dedicated lovers of these goofies. Now for the quality. It is amazingly bright. Much brighter than most of my regular Strats and Teles. The bridge PU is even a little too bright, to my ears. Cheap ceramic pickups, they are, but in most positions they sound really sweet. The neck plays like a dream. I mean, there are 10s on the guitar, but they feel like 9s. Further more, I am not really a fan of red, and I don't understand why it has black knobs (why not red...., or white). And it is rather small, more like a toy guitar, though it is not really a toy. Played on a Fender Champ 1976, channel 1.
