In Shaolin Wooden Men (1976) and Spiritual Kung Fu (1978), we see Jackie show his prowess in southern Five Animals Kung Fu. The iconic opening scene in Shaolin Wooden Men takes you on a tour of each animal - dragon, snake, tiger, leopard and crane. And what's special about this sequence is that you see some different shapes from the standard Hung Gar Kuen that was ubiquitous in 70s Hong Kong action. According to Jackie's bio - I Am Jackie Chan - he was given a bit more creative control in this film and there's plenty in there that's ahead of its time. In Spiritual Kung Fu, you see more influence from Jackie's training in Bak Mei (White Eyebrow). Although not one of Mr Chan's favourite films, it's definitely worth a look as a snapshot of Jackie's early choreography.
