Dr. Shakuntala Banaji is Programme Director for the Master's in Media, Communication and Development in the department of Media and Communication, London School of Economics and Political Science. Her research has addressed internet cultures; online civic participation; the socio-political contexts of cinema audiences; young people and creativity. She is currently researching the politics and implications of different forms of agency and participation offered to children and young people. Her books include The Civic Web: Young People, the Internet, and Civic Participation (co-authored with David Buckingham, MIT Press, 2013) and Reading Bollywood: The Young Audience and Hindi Film (Palgrave Macmillan, 2006/2012). About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
