At least 25 people have died including a Sri Lankan citizen Niras Chandra and around 100 others have been injured in a massive fire that engulfed FR Tower in Dhaka's Banani in Bangladesh on Thursday, March 28. The fire broke out around 12:45 pm at the fifth floor of the FR Tower, said an official of fire service and civil defense control room. Among 25, 13 bodies were found inside the 22-storey building on Kamal Ataturk Avenue after the fire was doused, the Fire Service and Civil Defence confirmed to the media. A total of 21 firefighting units tried to douse the blaze and rescue the people trapped inside the building. The fire was doused after four hours of efforts by the rescue authorities. The fire was brought under control around 4:45 pm, said Farid Uddin, a duty officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters. Expressing deep shock at the loss of lives and property in this devastating fire at FR Tower, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina asked the authorities concerned to ensure the proper treatment of the injured. PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said the prime minister is in touch with the authorities concerned over the rescue operation and the treatment of the injured. Note, At least eight people were killed and 15 injured in a road accident on Chittagong -Cox's Bazar Highway at Lohagara upazila last night. In both accidents today, 33 people have died and more than 115 others have been injured. Its a dark day in Bangladesh. Recently in Chawkbazar fire accidents, more than 70 people were killed.
