Every four years in Nigeria, at the front of the stage and in the headlights, political contenders vie to be the next leaders. But behind them, somewhat in the shadows, are other formidable powers who will still be pulling some of the biggest strings, whoever wins. The financial system, represented in Nigeria by the #CentralBank, is one of those most powerful forces - unelected, but affecting the lives of all Nigerians, and arguably the entire sub-continent. Well today, we'll be looking at banking, politics and economics, and asking whether in the context of the current economic crisis, growing unemployment and the continuing electricity crunch, not to mention the lack of capital loans for businesses, the banking system still has the right focus any longer.
