Considered to be the greatest horror movie of all time, Psycho was release on this day 65 years ago. I originally made this music in 2020 for the 60th anniversary, but I thought it was a good time for a tune-up. The Murder's screeching violin tune may be the most recognizable cue in Horror Movie history, but not a lot of people give enough credit to the opening of the movie. As I mentioned in a video comment, the music basically feels like a theme for perfect theme for Bates’ mind (I won't spoil who's the killer). It’s Maniacal, Violent, Chaotic, Tragic, mysterious, and above all…Split. I believe they start playing the medley every time Marion starts driving, not because of the situation she’s in, but because with every turn of her wheels, she is unknowingly getting closer and closer to Bates Motel, the ending notes saying by coming to this place…she’s doomed. Her death is foreshadowed close to the end, when the final smooth motif, unlike the sharp motifs throughout the other parts have a variant of the screeching violins heard in “The Murder” is heard, foreshadowing that whenever somebody meets Norman, murder is always the outcome. Here's my Piano transcription of that very famous piece.
