Clinical features? Bilaterally symmetrical Yellowish soft plaque. Asymptomatic But cosmetically disfiguring. Photo Etiology / Causes: • Familial hypercholesterolemia. • Hypertriglyceridemia. • Secondary dyslipidemia (e.g., hypothyroidism, diabetes mellitus, biliary cirrhosis). 2. Idiopathic (normal lipid levels in up to 50% of cases). Diagnosis: Clinical diagnosis (history and physical examination). Tests? 1) Lipid profile to assess for underlying dyslipidemia. 2) Thyroid profile 3) FBS 4)LFT Treatment: 1. Lifestyle Modification: • Lipid-lowering diet. • Exercise. 2. Medical Treatment: • Systemic lipid-lowering agents (statins, fibrates) if dyslipidemia is present. • Topical agents (e.g., trichloroacetic acid peel, less commonly used). 3. Surgical & Procedural Treatments: • Surgical excision (risk of scarring). • Laser therapy (CO₂ laser) • Electrodesiccation. 4)Surgical removal. Prognosis: • Benign lesion. • High recurrence rate (especially if underlying lipid disorder persists). • Presence of xanthelasma may indicate increased cardiovascular risk, especially if associated with hyperlipidemia. This is not contagious and non cancerous.
