*Unfortunately, the audio from the audience is silent during question-and-answer sections. However, because I paused for questions after most objections, my answers should still help give context. Also, because some of the text in the presentation is blurry, here is a link to the PowerPoint slide deck I used: https://primateevolved.com/answering-... *For fellow Catholic Christians, feel free to use the above link as a handy reference for when you do have conversations regarding objections to Catholic belief. *Note: At one point in the talk, I meant to mention 'Origen' as an ecclesiastical writer and contributor to Christian theology, but not as a 'Church Father'. In this video, I, Cee Vee, of "The Reconverted Catholic," address common objections to Catholic Christian beliefs for a parish audience. I am a devout Catholic who drifted away to Protestantism and atheism and returned to the faith So watch my detailed discussion to clear the misconceptions regarding Catholic Belief on salvation and relationship with God: 00:00: Intro 01:57: How To Have Productive Discussions On Faith 09:14: Are Catholics Saved And Born Again? 32:28: Faith vs. Works 56:57: Do Catholics Have a Personal Relationship with Jesus? 1:16:18: Closing Recommendations 👨🏻🏫Note: The audio from the audience is silent during question-and-answer sections. However, my answers should still help give context. Through this video, I emphasize the importance of having productive conversations about faith, focusing on a "journey towards truth" together. Instead of a head-to-head debate, I prefer to "walk side by side" with others, especially Protestant friends, to understand each other's beliefs. 🤔Are Catholics saved and born again? ▶️Protestant friends often use scriptures like Romans 6:23 and John 3:3 to explain being born again through faith in Christ. They may also refer to 1 Timothy 2:5-6 about Jesus being the one mediator. ▶️The concept of the "sinner's prayer" and a four or five-point plan for receiving Jesus and being saved is common in some Protestant denominations, often rooted in Romans 10:9-10. Passages like Romans 3:21-22 and 3:23 about justification by faith and all having sinned are also frequently used. ▶️Catholics agree that Christ is our Savior and that salvation is initially received through God's grace, not by earning it through works. This aligns with passages like Ephesians 2:8-9. ▶️However, the Catholic understanding of justification may differ slightly from some Protestant views. Catholics do not believe in "earning" salvation through works, but rather in cooperating with God's grace after receiving it. 🤔Do Catholics have a personal relationship with Jesus? ▶️Catholics believe they have a deeply personal and intimate relationship with Jesus, most especially through receiving his Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity in the Holy Eucharist at Mass. ▶️ The concept of Covenant is central to understanding this relationship. God has established a binding and eternal commitment to a relationship with humankind since the beginning. Baptism into Christ's death and resurrection signifies our entering into this covenant relationship. ▶️ Examples of covenants throughout scripture include those with Adam and Eve, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and David. Jesus established the new and eternal Covenant through his blood (Matthew 26:28, Luke 22:20). ▶️The Catechism of the Catholic Church emphasizes the importance of a "vital and personal relationship with the living and true God". ▶️Catholics nurture their personal relationship with Jesus through various means, including: 1️⃣Participating in Mass and receiving the Eucharist. 2️⃣The Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession). 3️⃣Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. 4️⃣Living out their faith through love (Faith working through love). 5️⃣Participating in the Sacraments. 6️⃣Understanding the Church as a Sacrament (a visible sign of God's grace) and being a communal sign of God's grace.
