Author's Note ---------------------- During the season of advent, one of the conductors of the choir that I belong to decided to introduce this hymn. This song tells the story of the Archangel Gabriel epic appearance to Mary to seek her consent to bring forth in her the Messiah promised to the ancient fathers. Mary's reply to the angel's request, now famously known as the Magnificat is later sung in response to the Angel's request. The Evangelist Luke mentions Mary 12 times by name in at least 10 separate instances, making her the most widely mentioned woman in the new testament hence underscoring her importance the history of salvation. Her role in the bible as the first disciple of the Word , marked by the multiple occasions she submitted to the will and word of God. She is archetype model of discipleship, saying yes to God all her life. In our daily lives, we may find it hard to say YES to God or submit ourselves totally on every occasion. Maybe God isn't tallying the number of YES versus NO in our lives. Maybe he is just waiting for the one moment... that one special moment when we say Yes to Him.... and He will do the rest and bring forth His grace in our life. I pray that all of us , when faced with the momentous decision, will humbly submit to HIS will. Who knows what marvellous miracles can result from that simple yes.
