Aphids attack a variety of trees including Hemlocks, Spruces and Tulip Poplars. Depending on the species, Aphids can feed on foliage, others on twigs and branches, flowers or fruit, and some on roots. Warning signs are stunted growth and wilted, distorted, curled, yellowed foliage. Aphids can also leave a sticky residue known as "honeydew,"which promotes growth of black, sooty mold. Honeydew attracts ants, flies, hornets, and yellow jackets. It can also ruin the finish on metal objects under aphid-infested ornamental plants.
