On May 29, 2025, Brooklyn Community Services (BCS) proudly honored Janelle Farris, former President and Executive Director, at the 2025 BCS Gala held at BAMcafé in Downtown Brooklyn. As the first African American woman to lead BCS in its 159-year history, Farris guided the organization through more than a decade of transformational leadership. During her tenure, BCS expanded affordable housing initiatives now serving more than 300 residents, strengthened youth education and afterschool programming, and steered the organization through critical moments of growth and evolution. Reflecting on her journey, Farris shared: “I made a pact with God as a little girl — to serve people — and BCS gave me a way to live that promise.” The evening brought together community leaders, supporters, and partners to celebrate her legacy and reaffirm BCS’s continued commitment to meeting the evolving needs of Brooklyn. Hosted by Phil Taitt of ABC7 New York, the 2025 Gala marked both a tribute to dedicated leadership and a celebration of BCS’s enduring impact.
