Dee Harvey (real name Demetrius La Vell "Dee" Harvey) was an American R&B singer born in in Memphis, Tennessee. Dee moved to Los Angeles in 1988. He also recorded some records under his real name Demetrius (will upload then later). He started as a rodie and background singer for his father Eddie Thomas (bass player) and got to work with Denise LaSalle, the Dell, and the Chi-Lites. Dee would soak up the inspiration and discipline that would power his career. At 19, he made a demo tape that earned him a spot on a tour in Japan. Between 1985 and 1987, he was asked back 5 times. His big break came from Harry Belafonte, who was looking for, and found in Dee - a tenor to do backgrounds on his 1989 album. Dee also sang backgrounds for Patti Labelle, Angela Bofill, and toured with Lenny Kravitz. Dee became fast friends with producer Tena Clark (Vesta Williams, Patti Labelle, and Angela Bofill) who brought Dee to Motown. Together they co-wrote eight of the nine songs on Dee's debut album. Ranging in style for mid-tempo numbers to ardent ballads. "Leave Well Enough Alone" was the lead single followed by "Just As I Am". Dee recorded one final album in 1997 with roommate Michael "Z'Looke" Carpenter called "Old School" but never made it to a major label release. Instead released independently and sold by Dee during his shows and while touring with Rod Stewart (whom also funded the album). Will upload some tracks of that project later on. Dee Harvey sadly died from complications December 1, 2012 due to an illness at the age of 47.
