This video shows you how to replace the front brake pads and rotors on your 2002–2006 Toyota Camry (XV30). This generation of Camry is one of the most reliable cars on the road, but it still needs a fresh set of brakes to stay safe. We’ll show you how to handle the common "stuck rotor" issue and the proper torque specs for those 17mm bracket bolts. This repair was performed on a 2002 Toyota Camry and the process is the same for: 2002–2006 Toyota Camry (LE, SE, XLE trims) (Also applies to the 2002–2003 Lexus ES300) Parts & Specifications Brake Pads: 2002–2006 Camry Front Pad Set Rotors: Front Vented Rotors (Check if your car has 15" or 16" wheels as rotor diameter can vary!) Wheel Lug Nut Torque: 76 lb-ft (103 Nm) Caliper Bracket Bolt Torque: 79 lb-ft (107 Nm) Caliper Guide Pin Bolt Torque: 25 lb-ft (34 Nm) Tools You Will Need 14mm Socket (for caliper guide pin bolts) 17mm Socket (for caliper bracket bolts) 21mm Socket (for wheel lug nuts) C-Clamp or Caliper Compressor Tool Rubber Mallet (to free the rotor) Two M8-1.25 Metric Bolts (optional, to "push" a stuck rotor off the hub) Brake Parts Cleaner & High-Temp Brake Lube Jack and Jack Stands Steps Covered Lifting & Safety: Why you must use jack stands and never rely solely on a floor jack while working under the wheel well. Caliper Removal: Removing the two 14mm bolts and hanging the caliper with a bungee cord—never let it hang by the rubber brake hose. Bracket & Rotor: Removing the 17mm bracket bolts. If the rotor is rusted to the hub, we'll show you how to use two M8 bolts in the threaded rotor holes to "pop" it off easily. Cleaning the Hub: Using a wire brush to clean the rust off the wheel hub surface. If the hub is dirty, your new rotors will vibrate! Service the Guide Pins: Pulling the slide pins out of the bracket, cleaning off the old "crusty" grease, and applying fresh high-temp brake lube. Pro Tip: The pin with the rubber bushing usually goes on the bottom hole. Compression: Using the old brake pad and a C-clamp to slowly compress the caliper piston back into its housing. Reassembly: Installing the new clips, pads, and bracket, then torquing everything to the specs listed above.
