The main message of the Catholic Church in German speaking Middle Europe during the Baroque era was: Happiness, joy and greatness - all of them meant to worship God and to give the people on Earth an impression of a rich eternity in heaven. This Baroque church culture was also established in order to contrast well with the Protestants' ascetism and cold simpleness. Baroque architecture of Catholic churches in Middle Europe uses quite a lot of rather playful ornamentics; here, the Baroque era was very senseful and sensual -- the Catholic Church was opened for the masses, and people wanted to touch, to feel, to watch.
