We all have a hidden life. Thoughts unspoken. Motives unseen. Struggles beneath the surface. On Ash Wednesday, we begin the journey of Lent by asking a deeper question: Who is our audience? In Matthew 6, Jesus warns against performing our faith for others and invites us instead into a life lived before the Father — a life shaped not by applause, but by grace. This sermon explores the difference between religious performance and genuine devotion, calling us to return to God honestly, humbly, and expectantly. Lent is not about earning God’s favour — it is about responding to the mercy already secured for us at the cross. As we receive the ashes, we remember that we are fragile and mortal. But we also remember that in Jesus Christ, our hope is secure. Join us as we begin these forty days with our eyes fixed firmly on Jesus — playing to an audience of One.
