Marutha Malaai is a segment from a longer 20 min dance-drama program. This piece is set to the revered Tamil song “Marutha Malai Maamaniyey,” a heartfelt hymn praising Lord Muruga, the deity of valor, wisdom, and divine grace. Through expressive movements, rhythmic footwork, and graceful abhinaya, the dancer brings to life Muruga’s presence and the sanctity of the Maruthamalai hills. The performance reflects the spiritual depth and disciplined beauty of Indian classical dance traditions. It is performed by a dedicated students of Bhaarathi School of Indian Classical Dance, Toronto, Canada, showcasing both devotion and artistic training. The choreography by Shiyama Thayalan thoughtfully blends devotion, storytelling, and classical aesthetics, inviting the audience into a moment of reverence and inner stillness.
