8S LIPO MOD

This is just a quick mod i did to the 8s ZIPPY 5800mAh lipo that came with two four wire balance leads . Alot of people were getting sparks coming out of their balance leads when trying to plug them in and it is because as you will see in the pictures , there was a red positive wire from one of the balance leads going to the negative pole , sort of , of one of the lipo cells . So if you plugged both balance leads in it made a spark like touching positive and negative wires together . The middle red balance wire does not need to be there , there is no soldering involved, you just need to find yourself a nine pin balance cable plug end even if you buy one like in the pics from ebay etc for a couple bucks , and then just slot the original wires without the middle red one back into the new balance plug end . they are pretty easy to take out , just use a pin to lift the little plastic tab of each wire and slide them out . If you aren't to keen on taking it apart you can just take out the middle red wire and cover it with tape and leave it out of the new plug . if your battery is wired differently go to this web site www.commonsencerc.com and click on useful tools , then lipo wiring tool . type in what your lipo is in the boxes and it will show you how the lipo should be wired . It only goes up to 5s but it is the same as 8s just with a few more in the middle to add in . Click on yes in show balance wire hook up and it will show you how and where the balance wires should be . Just always make sure the red one is on the far left of the balance plug to plug into the charger . you will see on the site it has lots of red balance wires . just put the red one you get on the far left and make it look like a lipo you already have . I took these pics while i was making the mod so i only had them to make this vid to show , so as you watch you can pause on each step you are up to to see what you need to do . This battery can also be charged normally just using the red and black main power cable on a charger and changing lipo balance charge to just lipo charge and dont put the balance plug in and just watching the voltage for when it reaches 33.6volts . i like to make sure i just do it properly to start with so later when i got back to the battery and go to put the balance lead i may forget to leave the balance plug out and get sparks . So this is a mod worth doing . I put it up for the guys on the Hobbyking website mainly as it wouldnt play for some people , which is also where you can get these batteries if they still have them . So yeah its basically just a screen video going through the pics i took while i did the mod , just taking out the middle red balance wire cable and putting an 8s balance plug on the end instead . Fairly easy . You will see in the vid there is a black and red balance cable going to the same and of the middle cell , when you plug these two seperate balance leads into the two 4s balance harness of your charger it sends both positive and negative to the same spot and only causes sparks . Not really high enough voltage to do any damage just a good startle and some lovely fireworks ! lol Hope this video helps and if there are any questions please ask and i will answer asap , as we all learn from these experiences .
