As the story progresses, Rani becomes pregnant, and Appanna accuses her of infidelity. A village trial ensues, during which Rani has to prove her innocence. In a climactic moment, she undergoes an ordeal by swearing her innocence and placing her hand on the cobra, which miraculously does not harm her. This act convinces the villagers of her purity. In the end, Rani’s life takes an ambiguous turn, as the Naga sacrifices itself to maintain her honor, and Appanna, moved by the events, seemingly accepts her. The story ends on a note of magical realism, leaving the audience to reflect on the complexities of love and identity.
