During his extended stay in Tashi Lhunpo Monastery in South India, the Dalai Lama presided over the large assembly to pray for the earthquake victims of Shigatse and Dingri. Around 12,000 people, monks, nuns and lay people gathered in and around the temple to pray for victims of the recent devastating earthquake in Tibet. The principal monastery in Shigatse is Tashi Lhunpo, founded by the first Dalai Lama Gyalwa Gendun Drup, the seat of the Panchen Lamas. Solidarity prayer service held for earthquake victims in Dingri, Tibet. Tibetan NGOs organized a candlelight vigil to express solidarity for those affected by the 7.1 magnitude earthquake that struck Tibet's Dingri region on January 7, causing loss of life and damaging houses. The candlelight march through McLeod Ganj and an overnight prayer service from 7 am to 7 am. Participants carried placards with messages of support and recited prayers. Tibetan solidarity for the Quake Victims Many Tibetans in Tibet on Chinese social media like Tik Tok expressed sadness and solidarity with victims of the earthquake that hit Dingri county. A young couple from Lhasa, although expecting a baby and without a secure job except some small online business, sold gold jewelry items to donate cash for the quake victims. One young local woman says the best she could do was to raise awareness of the situation.
