Pasig River Esplanade, City of Manila January 27, 2026 Marking a significant milestone in the revival of the historic Pasig River, First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos led the Bigyang Buhay Muli ang Ilog Pasig: Vendor Kiosk Turnover Ceremony at the Pasig River Esplanade in the City of Manila on January 27, 2026. During the event, the First Lady led the ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially mark the turnover of the kiosks, followed by an inspection and walkthrough of the vendor area. The event signaled the turnover of 47 vendor kiosks and 18 chambers with 22 local businesses along the Intramuros stretch of the Pasig River Esplanade. Built with wood and steel, the kiosks — part of the 80 units planned along the riverwalk — host food stalls, service shops and local craft outlets, replacing the temporary pop-up tents along the riverbank and providing safer, more organized spaces for vendors and visitors. The turnover is part of the ‘Pasig Bigyang Buhay Muli,’ a flagship initiative of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s administration, which aims to restore the Pasig River as a hub of environmental renewal, cultural pride and inclusive economic growth. The initiative is led by the Office of the First Lady, in coordination with the Office of the Presidential Adviser for Pasig River Rehabilitation, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the Intramuros Administration, with Megaworld Corporation providing technical assistance during the initial phase of the Esplanade’s operation. Designed to support small businesses, the kiosks provide opportunities for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) while improving the overall experience for visitors to the historic riverside. The Esplanade now serves as a shared public space where livelihood, heritage and sustainability come together. The revitalization initiative also introduced improved waste management systems and people-centered design features, encouraging visitors to actively care for and enjoy the Pasig River. The Esplanade’s redevelopment highlights how environmental rehabilitation can complement heritage conservation while promoting inclusive economic growth. The Pasig River Esplanade is open daily, with commercial activities operating from 4:00 PM to 12:00 midnight.
