Today we look at the amazing story of Will Vinton, the man behind Claymation. A story with many twists and turn with a couple unfortunate endings. In 1974, Will Vinton teamed up with animator Bob Gardiner to create a clay animated short film called Closed Mondays. This was a groundbreaking achievement for clay animation, winning an Oscar in 1975 for best animated short film, and bringing home the first Academy Award for Portland Oregon. From this, Will Vinton Studios was born and became the home of Claymation for the next several decades, until something unfortunate happened… Join us for this episode of Culture Explained were we dive deep into how Will Vinton grew his studio and how he unfortunately lost it all.
